Outdoor Wall Lights – Fixer Upper Style
Okay let’s talk a little bit more about lighting today! Today, we are focusing on the outside of your home and looking at outdoor wall lights – fixer upper style. Outdoor light fixtures rarely get the attention they deserve. Think back to the last time you noticed someone’s outdoor light fixtures. Why did you notice them? Probably because they were different! There are so many amazing options available now when it comes to outdoor lighting. It’s time to step out of the box and give your outdoor wall lights a little TLC!
For me lighting is a key component in a house. It really is amazing how much impact lighting can have on a space. I know from experience that the perfect light fixtures can be hard to find. When you do finally find the perfect lights for your space it can transform a room. I love all things farmhouse so it’s no surprise that I love farmhouse style lighting. Be sure to check out Joanna’s Favorite Lights for interior spaces here.
I have gathered some of my favorite outdoor wall lights and am sharing them all here! These outdoor lights come in a variety of different sizes and finishes so there is bound to be something that fits your design style!
Outdoor Wall Lighting Ideas for 2022
I found similar wall sconces to the pic above at Shades of Light, but they’re pricey (and gorgeous!) Here’s a similar cheaper option. The rectangular look is so classic and elegant looking. If you’re looking for a modern twist on the rectangular wall lantern, here’s a good option from Pottery Barn.
PRO TIP: When choosing your outdoor wall lights, it’s better to go BIG. One common mistake I see often is teeny tiny 8 or 10 inch sconces mounted on a 10 foot high wall. Up close this light fixture may seem appropriately sized, but once you step back and look at it from the street – that tiny sconce will get lost on the facade of the house. So be sure to keep scale in mind when choosing your lights. And when in doubt, get the bigger size!
You won’t regret it 😉
I think these white gooseneck barn lights would look fabulous on a beach house with gray cedar shakes. Love the coastal vibes! And they’re actually really affordable.

We desperately need to add some new outdoor wall lights to our house. I’m thinking #2 or #12. Which one is your favorite?
Have a fabulous week!

I would love to have a wreath like the one that is pictured on the front door. Any idea where I could find it or one similar?
that one is by Pottery Barn but unfortunately sold out. Here’s a similar one on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2u2emUT
I like how you included that there are so many exterior lighting options. It was helpful that you suggested going big with your outdoor wall lights, and making sure that they fit your home’s scale. My brother and his wife are currently building a new home. Considering this when choosing the outdoor lighting fixtures for their home could be helpful.
Any suggestions for 3 lights? I want to replace our porch light & the two lights beside the garage door. I’m not sure if all 3 lights should be the same or the porch light should just compliment the the 2 garage lights. I just came across your website, and love it!
Hi Michelle, are all 3 of your lights mounted on a wall? If so, you can definitely use the same fixture to make things easier. Or you can use a slightly different fixture for your porch – just depends on your personal preference. I like the look of using two of #15 on either side of your garage doors, and then maybe using #8 or #12 on your front porch. Hope this helps 🙂
Hi – any suggestions for overhead light or pendant for front door portico AND matching wall light for side door?
Hi Carrie – Pottery Barn has several outdoor pendant/sconce sets that coordinate nicely. Here’s a pendant with matching wall sconce Hope this helps 🙂
