Our Texas Vacation – part 1

I’m finally getting back in the swing of things after taking a few weeks off for vacation. And one of my goals this year on the blog, is to get a little more personal and share more day to day type posts. So today I’m sharing all about our recent vacation to Texas! While I definitely wanted to spend some time at Magnolia, we also wanted to soak up some sun and just lounge at the beach. So we decided Galveston, TX would be a good spot to do just that!

Whenever I’m planning a vacation for longer than a few nights, I always check out vrbo.com . It’s an awesome site that lets you search for vacation rentals all over the world. I’ve used this site to book a vacation home on Lake Michigan that my extended family and I visited every summer for 7 years. The home was perfect – large enough for all of us (8 kids & 12 adults!) and just a few blocks to the lake. We’ve made countless memories in that house and watched our babies turn into adolescents. And it was super affordable because we shared the cost between all 6 families.

So when searching vrbo in Galveston, I came across this gorgeous home. Close to the beach? check. Pool? check. Clean, comfy, and beautifully decorated? check!

The look on my kids’ faces when we opened the front door was worth every penny! Honestly, the house was much bigger than what our small family of 5 needed. We felt kinda funny having it all to ourselves, but we’re hopefully going to go back and take my parents and my brothers’ family too. It’s the perfect size for a few families to all enjoy together!

In the evenings we loved walking along the beach looking for jellyfish and shells. Then we would come inside and play cards for a few hours. We taught our kiddos how to play euchre and I think they are officially hooked now! It’s funny how we drove all this way to spend time on the beach, yet one of their favorite activities was just spending quality time with us playing cards. It hit me recently that we only have 5 more years until our oldest daughter leaves for college. How the heck did that happen!? makes me sad just thinking about it! So I am trying to make an intentional effort to make more memories and spend more time just relaxing with my kiddos. We’re going to put a summer bucket list together soon too – this is a good one to get ideas from.

And here’s the remaining shots of the house – of course I had to get lots of photos for you guys! The attention to detail in the decor and finishes was amazing! My kids especially loved the barnwood on the wall and the kitchen backsplashes (both upstairs & downstairs!) I loved all the light fixtures (you know I’m a sucker for a good light fixture)

    1. I do have her number, but since I am unsure if she wants me to give it out – your best bet would be to contact her via the VRBO listing. You can send her an email via the site and she is very quick to respond. Thanks for reading!

  3. What a beautiful home! We’re heading out of town in Sept. to Tampa and I haven’t booked our lodging yet. Funny — I have done photos for a vrbo owner before, but didn’t even think to look there! I will definitely check it out now. 🙂

    1. yes, it is such a great site! And amazingly some of the homes are even more affordable than hotels – but so much more comfortable and spacious than staying in a hotel! have a great trip, Holly!
