FIXER UPPER Season 4 Episode 1: Cargo Ship House

So have we all had time to soak up every last detail of the Fixer Upper Cargo Ship House yet? What are your thoughts? I am in LOVE with the interior. Exterior…not so much. I mean they did an awesome job with what they had to work with, but that porch seems to be a little much in my opinion. I do love the color they chose though.

FIXER UPPER Season 4 Episode 1: Cargo Ship House

With the start of a new season of Fixer Upper, I’m going to start a new series where I will document all the details and show YOU where to get the same or similar items. I know it’s always hard when you see a light fixture or certain item in one of the shows, and then you spend a bajillion hours looking for it online only to come up empty. I already spend a bajillion hours online, so I might as well share all my finds with you – right? πŸ˜‰

So let’s get started! (scroll all the way down for shopping sources & links!)

Kitchen & Dining

Functionality: I absolutely love the flow and design of the kitchen. It has a great work triangle with the main sink featured in the island and a smaller prep sink to the side. When designing kitchens, it’s important to think how you will use the space. Do you love to bake? Then a double oven is a great addition. If you’re always ordering take-out, then spend your money on something that’s more important to you like a gorgeous light fixture.

Design: This kitchen features two main design elements: color & texture. Joanna kept things light and bright by using a soft neutral paint color on the walls and white perimeter cabinets. She chose a bolder navy blue color with green undertones for the island and stove hood. (To see some of her favorite paint colors check out this post.) Then she warmed everything up with those amazing faux wood beams, antique wood door, and wood crates.

Lighting: Aren’t those pendant lights fabulous? ===> you can purchase them here. Joanna definitely has a knack for choosing unique light fixtures that become the focal point of a room. So what’s the moral of the story here? When designing your space, don’t skimp on lighting! It can really make a difference between a ho-hum space and a room that makes you say WOW.

Comfy & Casual Dining – the dining space just off the kitchen features the trestle table from Joanna’s furniture line and these (similar) slipcovered parsons chairs are comfy but clean up quick in the washer. The french country chandelier is the perfect accent to the open concept space.

Dining and great room lights in the Cargo House are from Ballard. The design is my all time favorite.

The original house appeared to overhang the 1st floor by about 3 feet(above the garage door). On the finished house the overhang is gone. Was there a structural problem with the addition and the overhang had to be removed? It wasn’t mentioned during the show.

hmm, I never noticed that Kim! My guess is Joanna tried to eliminate some of the bi-level look of the house and modernize the outside architectural details a bit. But I’m not sure?

I’m sorry I haven’t been able to find the exact color she used – it was probably from her new paint line with Killz though. I will update the post if I find the info – thanks for reading πŸ™‚

thanks so much Brianna! So glad you found my blog πŸ™‚ I’m not sure the exact color she used in the kitchen (she didn’t release Season 4 colors) but it looks close to Navajo White by Benjamin Moore. Just get a sample first to see how it looks in your own space & lighting situation. The kitchen pendants are fabulous! They can be found on Joss & Main here: http://fave.co/2voPW7B

I wasn’t able to find the exact porch light, but here’s a similar version from Shades of Light https://www.shadesoflight.com/products/charleston-outdoor-wall-lantern-large?via=57e1332469702d78ae0000a9%2C57e136b469702d78ae000404

I would like to know the wood flooring source if possible, for the cargo ship house

Sorry, I don’t have the specific wood flooring details. She usually tries to refinish existing floors or use unfinshed wood and stain and finish on-site.
