You might not know this, but shortly after college graduation I received my dream job offer to work for an ad agency. The job itself was amazing and the people were warm and welcoming to this 23 year old small town Illinois girl.

But what I was most looking forward to was… moving to FLORIDA! ☀️🌴

The job was located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and ever since I was a little girl I had dreamed of escaping the cold and dreary midwest winters and moving to the beach. I love the ocean, the waves, the sun. It just has such a calming effect on my soul. So my parents helped me pack up my meager belongings (which consisted of a leftover papasan chair from college, a tiny microwave, and way too many clothes. You know, the young adult essentials) and drove me 22+ hours south.

And while I absolutely adored living in Florida, my days with a coastal address were short lived. You see, right before I moved to FL I met this cute small town Illinois boy.

And 6 months later I moved back to Illinois to become his fiancee, and we just celebrated our 20th anniversary 🙂 gosh I’m old.

But while I’m no longer living on the coast, I can still add coastal touches to my decor to help me achieve that light and bright casual coastal vibe that I’ve loved for so long. It was super hard for me to choose, but I decided to grab some new pillows to help with my living room fall refresh. I grabbed 2 of the gorgeous Blakely Plaid pillows in a dark navy color (also available in gray, light blue, and ivory.) I love the pop of color it gives and the 24″ size is just perfect to anchor the ends of our large sectional. And bonus: they will pair so nicely with my red Christmas pillows this winter!

I also snagged the adorable Madrona lumbar pillow in the 12×21 size. It’s made of woven raffia to give my pillowscape (is that a thing?) some much needed texture. And aren’t those little pom poms just the cutest? The light sand color reminds me of the beach and also the dried cornhusks of our Illinois cornfields at harvest time.

I especially love how all Serena and Lily’s pillows can mix and match so well. My new fall pillows look great with the chambray blue Barcelona pillow I picked up on sale a few months ago. When we got our new sectional, I noticed how dark it was in the corner. We really needed some way of getting light back there, since I love to snuggle in the corner and read. And my old lady eyes just don’t do very well in dim lighting.

I fell in love with the Flynn wall sconces from S&L and I adore these rattan wicker shades. There’s a simple on/off switch on the wall plate too, so no need to fumble behind the couch. And they swivel side to side to point the light directly where my old lady eyes need it most! #winning
