Garden Ideas from Magnolia Silos

I’m back with some more pictures from our Texas vacation. If you missed the first post you can check it all out here (including where to find amazing beach front rental houses, for reasonable prices!) We spent 5 nights on the coast in Galveston, then we packed everything up and headed to WACO! I took tons of pics, so I’m breaking it up into two posts and today I’ll be sharing some really cute garden ideas from Magnolia Silos.

We arrived at the Silos after lunch and it was already fairly crowded. It was a Thursday afternoon, so I’d hate to see how crowded the place gets on the weekend! My first impression was that Chip and Joanna took care of every. little. detail.  I mean, even the garbage cans were gorgeous! The amount of planning and execution it would take to pull off designing a venue of this size (approx 1 full block) just boggles my mind!

Magnolia Seed + Supply

Our first stop was this cute little Seed + Supply store just next to the Silos. This is where Joanna has all her gardening related items and decor for sale. There are real air plants, succulents, seeds and other items displayed. Things were a little pricey, but that could just be my frugal self being picky 🙂 Everything was VERY nicely displayed. I would like to shake the hand of whoever does her merchandising. Everything is SO gorgeous, and would give Anthro a good run for their money! The only downside is this little store is tiny. I mean, it’s about the size of my living room & dining room combined. Which doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room for people to shop.

And just outside the Seed + Supply store, they have a cute little greenhouse with baby chickens for sale! oh the cuteness!

The grounds surrounding the Seed + Supply store are filled with raised beds and cute little flower gardens. It really is amazing how nice it all looks. It makes me wonder how many people they have on their landscaping/gardening staff. My parents own a greenhouse & nursery business and I know first hand the amount of work (and sweat) it takes to keep all those flowers looking so gorgeous!

I love the way Joanna uses repurposed items as planters. I’m not for sure, but I think this pic below is an old pig feeder 🙂 It makes such a statement filled with pretty flowers! So the moral of the story here, is keep your eyes peeled at your local flea markets and antique stores for some rusty old junk and fill them with flowers!

The bakery was super crowded the day we were there, but I did take some quick picks of their pretty greenery.

  3. Christy I just read your blog on Where to find real Shiplap! Im in the process of researching this for our small powder room. What Im wondering is what do you feel the difference between the rivted or reverted(Of I apologize I forgot what the word you used was!!!)verses the tongue and groove. Is there a larger space between the board? I do note its thicker. Looking for all the help I can get! Thanks Christy

    1. Hi Deb, the shiplap we used has a square rabbeted edge and you can install it with as big or little gap as you want. We like the visual separation of the boards so we went with about a 1/4″ gap. Tongue and groove boards “mimic” the look of shiplap and don’t have an actual gap, they have a v-shaped groove in the boards. My parents have tongue and groove on their ceilings and it looks nice as well. It’s really just personal preference and I prefer the shiplap over tongue and groove. I think you can’t go wrong with either choice! good luck 🙂

  5. Loved the landscaping. Inquired as to the identification of the prolific ornamental billowing greenish-brown grasses but none of the staff knew. Saw them in early April 2022. Does anyone know? I would like to incorporate those in my yard in Tennessee.

    1. Do you have a pic of the grasses, Ann? If so, you can email them to me at [email protected] and I can ask my Mom who has her own greenhouse business and grows thousands of plants 🙂

  6. We just visited the Silos and fell in love with the roses that were in front of the Cottage Shops. Do you know what type they?

    1. Hi Dina, unfortunately, I don’t know – you could try emailing Magnolia to ask them. Thanks for reading!
